Azur Lane is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up video game created by Chinese developers Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi, released in 2017 for the iOS and Android operating systems.
Azur Lane is a popular gacha game well known for their “waifu” or wife characters in the community which are all lovingly designed, animated and voiced. The quality of the game is very high as the game was seen as a competitor for existing “ship-girl” game, Kancolle.
Azur Lane’s characters are all based on an moe anthropomorphic forms of well-known World War 2 Warships, these are known as ship girls to the community and have a dedicated following for military otaku as well as otaku interested in the original history of the war.
The game features more than 450 characters in total and they are constantly being added, there are warship names referenced from numerous countries including USA, Japan and Russia which produced some of the most ships during the war.
The main mode of battle involves organising your ship girls into a formation with various different types of ship girl having different abilities and doing battle with various enemies on an instanced map.
