Genshin Impact’s latest version update is soon upon us with the preload already released and Hoyoverse releasing a new themed web minigame for Yelan. This mysterious character claims to work for the Ministry of Civil Affairs in Liyue under the jurisdiction of the Qixing and Ningguang in particular.
Yelan will often mingle among the good and bad in society in her work in order to catch criminals or investigate cases that the Millelith cannot resolve themselves. Yelan as a character is calm, intellectual and very familiar with interrogation as seen in her trailer.

In the Genshin Impact lore, not all characters that are strong in the META of the game are strong in the lore of the game, Yelan is one of those characters as well. Yelan is not able to endure fights for a long time against trained martial artists and needs to save up a lot of energy in order to fight. Yelan like other characters in Genshin Impact has a birthday of her own with her own mail just for the Traveller. Her birthday is on the 20th of April which is unfortunate as players will need to wait until next year. It will be likely that Yelan would send players her speciality dish, Dew Dipped Shrimp to players in the mail. This dish is Yelan’s creation which is built on top of the stir-fried shrimp dish.
Yelan will of course also feature a voice line for your birthday and will help you relax at the Yanshang Teahouse. She will also cook you up some food, with a lot of Jueyun Chillis!
Why does Yelan love dice so much in her Genshin lore?
Yelan is almost always seen rolling dice to make decisions, while at first this might seem as though she has a gambling problem this is actually a quirk of her’s that ties into her own psychology and perception of the world. Yelan is a highly intelligent individual and finds the world and her work as well quite boring, she uses the dice to make decisions on what to do due to not finding any interest or motivation to do certain things out of boredom.
This is also an explanation as to why Yelan enjoys adding so many chillies into her food because she is a character constantly trying to seek thrills. Only a spicy food would be able to bring her some level of enjoyment and feel alive similar to how she views her work and the world around her. Yelan requires constant stimulation and new cases to solve even if they bring her more danger in order to feel alive, perhaps out of her mysterious history and bloodline.

It is clear that the new update and character quest in The Chasm will feature Yelan and likely be focused on her, her story and background as well as diving into us helping her uncover parts of her mysterious history. Yelan is a woman on a mission to discover why she is so drawn The Chasm and what exactly lies dormant down there. Yelan seeks to understand if this is the reason for her complicated family past and the reason for her strange personality requiring constant stimulation to feel alive. The Traveller will definitely be helping her on this journey and hopefully, we can all uncover what makes Yelan such a unique character.
