Azur Lane: Crosswave Sets Sail with Anime Magic in February

You can play as your very own femme warship on the PS4 or PC starting in February of 2020.

Azur Lane is a very… unique game. You play as a ship girl, which is basically a historical warship that has been anthropomorphized into a woman. Usually a very scantily dressed and buxom woman with huge cannons coming out of her clothes. And that’s not a euphemism–those are actual cannons that fire real bombshells.

The original Azur Lane is a 2D side-scrolling shooter mobile game that was released back in May (although it’s been available in Asia for years), and it’s seen quite a lot of success. They recently wrapped up a special event where virtual YouTubers were turned into their own versions of these weird ship girls.

Now, Azur Lane is heading to consoles and PC in Azur Lane: Crosswave.

Crosswave takes the standard Azur Lane formula and changes it from a 2D shooter to a 3D shooter. You’re still a ship girl, but now you’re floating above the waves firing on incoming warships with your strange ship girl abilities.

Those abilities will depend on the type of ship your girl happens to be. Aircraft carriers will be able to send out flights of aircraft, while destroyers can take evasive actions and send out torpedoes to damage larger ships. Some characters even get special shields, which wasn’t a technology available in World War 2, but then again, neither was a flowing gown covered in 18-inch howitzers.

You’ll have 25+ main characters to choose from plus 30+ supporting characters. Four game modes will include Story Mode, which will basically be your main campaign, as well as Extreme Battle Mode, where you’ll face off against 100+ fleets of challenging enemies to harvest rare items and special materials (which can then be used to make upgrades for your ships). Photo Mode will let you pose your ship girls to take nice pictures, while Episode Mode will have over 50 sub-stories that will give you bonus character backgrounds.

We don’t have a specific release date, but expect to sail away in Azur Lane: Crosswave sometime in February for either the PS4 or PC via Steam.
